I will also try to post sometimes on my other old blog:
francoisbob.biketravellers.com
well..... I should....
Here people who doens't read french should find the basic information about who I am, about what is the association I'm working for and what is my project about... A sum up in English !Alternatively you can use gtranslate for the french page, I don't know how good/bad are the results though!
Just an other round-the-world cycle trip? Perhaps at first, but the trip should also be an extention of the activity done by my association -put forward bikes- and by the workshops -help people to fix their bikes-.
A travel, a trip, according to me, allow to discover new places, these new places are always populated by different people that will enable the traveller to discover new languages, behaviour, food, music, in a word new CULTURES!
A bicycle travel, according to me will enable a lot more the travel to enjoy and get to know genuine local people to the extent that first:
- you can go whereever you like and leave the "classical tourist path"
- people will more see you as a traveller than a tourist, cause you are traveling through the country as a whole and not going to visit this special place. Also that you cycled so far, showing some interest in coming there, unlike sitting in a plane that offered cheap fare for a "good destination"..
I'am planning to do a great trip on a bike, through eastern Europe. (maybe further toward middle east and south east Asia, but maybe later in my life...) . This trip is somehow the realisation of an old dream, but will also be the continuation of my lifestyle. I will carry with me some usefull tools, some bits and bike parts as well as some know-how and motivation to help people on my way to fix and adjust bikes and more when I can.
So the plan of the travel is no detailled plan, but to discover and help at the same time, to help around, as an exchange of positive experiences.
And as a Scottish friend of mine wrote: (I fully agree with this!)
"plan ahead a little bit, but not too rigidly, as this would preclude sensible changes, to look back from time to time, to try to learn from our mistakes and so, not repeat them and hopefully, to fondly recall past experiences but having done this, what is essential is to 'live in the now', especially since we 'pass this way but once', so we should enjoy each experience as it comes. It would be a tragedy either to 'live in the past' or to 'plan everything down to the last detail but to forget to live in the present. Every day is unique, so it offers never ending possibilities, some good, some less so, but all adding something to our lives. "
about me:
I am a young french man, done with the studies. I found myself in such a situation in life, that going for a big trip was probably the best idea of what I should do ...
In the frame of my first studies I've been for a while in Germany. That was an interesting time, I could learn German. Thereafter I've done othe studies that allowed me to spend a year in Scotland. I learned some English language, which is rather usefull...
Lately I spend about 2 years in Grenoble, France where I learned about bike mechanics, fiddling stuff and exchange with people through my work at the uN p’Tit véLo dAnS La Tête. This is socially incredibly rich. I could speak many hours about all this...
About the P'Tit vÉlo:
uN p’Tit véLo dAnS La Tête is an association that promotes bicycle widely. Lots of activities are performed around the year, some specials events as well as workshops. We also create freak bikes.
In the 2 workshops of the association, members can come along and use all general and specialised tools, get spare parts for free and get helped from other people (volunteers as well as people working there) to learn how to fix, adjust or improve their bike. Or even more!
This is a place of know-how exchange, of re-cycling and a lot more!
